Fireworks tonight in Ibiza Town at 11:59PM

August 8th sparks fireworks here in Ibiza, this local tradition marks the Patron Saint’s day of “Nuestra Señora de las Nieves” (literal translation “Our Lady of the Snows”), a festival that starts on August 5th and is concluded today (08.08.15) with a midday mass followed by floats, parades and fireworks in Ibiza Town (Eivissa Centro) accompanied by locals who dress to impress in traditional Ibicenco costume.

The tradition commemorates the Catalan conquest of Ibiza from the Moors in 1235, legend has it the Saint Ciriaco chapel found in Ibiza Town was the place the Catalan soldiers first entered the Arab citadel and the conquest of the island by King Jaime I began.

Enough of the history here are our tips:-

The fireworks are a real attraction for the locals of Ibiza who flock to Ibiza Town to bag themselves a good seat, usually in one of the local bars/restaurants. As a relatively unknown spectacle to the tourist who visit, you can imagine it comes as a nice surprise to those who are on holiday that happen to be in the town!

If you are in Ibiza we recommend popping by –

  • Fireworks start @ 11:59pm sharp and last a good 10-15 minutes
  • Make your way over early enough to ensure parking (if arriving by car), in fact your best avoiding the inevitable parking battles  altogether by hailing a taxi
  • This year the fireworks will be launched from the wave breaker inside the Port (Closest to Ibiza Magna) which is the closest (safest) point to the recently refurbished port/paseo (shown below)
  • They can be viewed fromMarina Botafoch which tends to be less busy than the center of the port
